RECORDS AND RUNNERS TUMBLE AT EAGLE CRAG
A respectable turnout of 31 runners tackled the tough 5.4 mile, 2500 feet Eagle Crag hill race. A week of watering made for a muddy, boggy run, with the last steep descent a particularly slippery slope. Clearing pea soup mist and a well marked route helped secure some fast times.
Brian Marshall finished comfortably within his own record, winning in 58:28. Dawn Scott also broke her record by almost a minute, finishing in 1:13:29.
Second and third men were Colin Donnelly and Alan Smith in 1:01:02 and 1:03:08. Behind Dawn were Amanda Blackhall in 1:21:53 and Sarah Legge in 1:24:55.
Among strong local performances were new LAC recruit Peter Ward, Graham Brooks (first male vet 50) and Ali Kennedy. Ernie Orr posted his fastest time yet in this race and Ian Adams took an astonishing 17 minutes off his last years time.
Thanks go to marshals and helpers Bill, Christine, the ONeills and Ken. Many thanks to Ian MacColl for permission.
Lochaber Athletic Clubs Triple Hirple weekend starts on Saturday 7th July with the Melantee race at 2pm, from Claggan Park.
